Asked by TRICIA T - Thu Jan 4 02:05:22 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Hmm most tropical fish? Unlikely... Sharks have a gill network which utilises what we call ram-ventilation. In lamen terms the fish swims and as it swims, water will pass through the multiple vertical aperatures along its outer sides. As the water flows through these aperatures, oxygen is removed from the water, before it flows once again out of the gills. This being said, pulling oxygen out of moving water in itself is a mighty feat! And obviously the multiple slits allow the shark to pull more than 1 stream of water in to absorb more oxygen than it would with only 1 gill aperature. Because of this manner of breathing sharks have, it makes them horrible specimens to maintain in captivity with just about anything but other sharks. I found the remains of a white tailed deer by our house (just bones by now) and my father an I finally brought all the bones we could find up to the house. My father wants to try to put the remaining bones (some are missing) back together as well as he can, but I can't find any good pictures of the skelatal structure of a deer. Q. I have a 5 foot red tailed boa, in a huge 5'x3' cage. Have had the snake 2 yrs (it belonged to my ex). Do I donate it to a zoo, or a refuge? I really am afraid of the snake and don't feel it is right to just feed and water it and not do anything else with it. Its unfair to the snake. What do I do with it? Asked by ksheather73 - Mon Jun 30 10:21:49 2008 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments A. A lot of zoos will not take donations of animals, especially common ones like that, a few will so you can try. I would look for snake rescues or trying selling or giving the snake away. I would go with sell because someone willing to pay for the snake will most likely take better care of it. Do not just let it go. I am assuming you are not in Brazil. So the snake is not native to your area. Releasing a snake that size (or any size) into an area that does not have them naturally can really mess up the ecosystem there. At first I would try to find it a new home, then try a rescue.
