I doubt there are any "easy shortcuts or hints" to figuring this out; unless you choose to let a tax professional sort it out for you, you'll probably just have to cinch up your belt and work your way through the instructions. The best I can do is give some general advice (my apologies that this is so long: stick with me!). To help you on your way, the instructions on the PBT website (linked below) say that as a "Unit holder" (shareholder), your "Units" (shares) entitle you to a portion of the Trust's income and expenses, meaning that part of the income and expenses (determined by how many Units you own) gets reported by you personally. Q. OK, so I just watched the episode of Nova Scinec Now that discussed the Permian extinction. We have a Permian Basin here in Texas (way out on the West side). How are the two related? Or are they related at all? Was the Permian Basin named for something totally unrelated to the Permian Epoch and extinction? The Permian Period (Epochs are smaller divisions of time) is named after Perm, Russia where rocks of that age were first studied. The Permian Basin in the Texas Panhandle region is named that because rocks of Permian age make up a very thick sequence of the rock there, although there are both older and younger rocks in the basin. The redbeds of the area you are undoubtedly familiar with are mostly Permian in age, BTW.
