North America (Spanish: América del Norte or Norteamérica; French: Amérique du Nord) is the northern continent of the Americas, situated in the Earth's northern hemisphere and in the western hemisphere. It is bordered on the north by the Arctic Ocean, on the east by the North Atlantic Ocean, on the southeast by the Caribbean Sea, and on the west by the North Pacific Ocean; South America lies to the southeast.

North America covers an area of about 24,709,000 square kilometers (9,540,000 square miles), about 4.8% of the planet's surface or about 16.5% of its land area. As of July 2008, its population was estimated at nearly 529 million people. It is the third-largest continent in area, following Asia and Africa, and the fourth in population after Asia, Africa, and Europe.

Why is North America slower compared to Asia in education?
Q. My tutor explained to me that students in Asian countries are taught a lot faster compared to students in North America and Canada are taught. But he told me only in elementary & high school. But college and university is a lot better in north america compared to colleges in asian countries.

A. runaway slaves were funnelled into upper and lower Canada because slavery was outlawed in the british empire in 1804.So if they made across the border they were free.the slavery was in the southern states of the US.

How come the English colonies were allowed to settle in North America? What about the Treaty of Tordesillas?
Q. Spain and Portugal signed the Treaty of Tordesillas in 1494, and Spain got all lands to the west of the line, including much of North America. How come the English could settle in North America then? Wasn't the land Spain's?

A. Treaties don't apply except among the signatories. Evidently the English didn't agree to abide by that one.
