Literature is the art of written works. Literally translated, the word means "acquaintance with letters" (from Latin littera letter), and therefore the academic study of literature is known as Letters (as in the phrase "Arts and Letters"). In Western culture the most basic written literary types include fiction and nonfiction.

What should I write in the literature review in a thesis about investing opportunities in a country?
Q. I'm writing my thesis right now and the topic is about opportunities for investing in the higher education sector in Bangladesh. So what exactly should I do the research and write about in my "literature review" part? For example should it be about foreign investing theories in general, or about Bangladesh or about what? By definition it's said that literature review is to do a research on literature about your topic. But in this case what will be the components? I hope I made myself clear enough. Thank you!

A. hmm... interesting. perhaps in ur case u have to talk about actual 'literature'... meaning pamphlets, books, etc that discuss investing opportunities. sometimes they call media and advertisments as literature... make sure w/ ur professor what they are looking for? unless this is for a class on actual 'literature' as in stories and poems... good luck!

What is a well-known, good work of literature that deals with men who abuse their family?
Q. What is a well-known, good work of literature that deals with men who abuse their family? Like a man that beats his wife and/or kids? I think when a household is like that, it is very, very sad. But I haven't read any works of literature that deals with that kind of theme.

A. The Color Purple, which is an excellent read (and may well be required reading later in your education--but you'll already have read it!) deals with a woman's life during and following abuse at the hands of multiple men.

Who is a hero in history or literature who willingly gave credit for their accomplishments to someone else?
Q. I need to know for a screenplay. Who, in history or literature, either voluntarily became hated for the good of society or who did something great and gave the credit to someone else for the good of everyone. It's pathetic, but all I can think of is Batman from the Dark Knight, how he makes himself out to be a villain at the end so everyone venerates Harvey Dent. Also, I suppose the guy who allegedly wrote Shakespeare's plays would count. Anyone else?
