Galveston Bay is a large estuary located along the upper coast of Texas in the United States. It is connected to the Gulf of Mexico and is surrounded by sub-tropic marshes and prairies on the mainland. The water in the Bay is a complex mixture of sea water and fresh water which supports a wide variety of marine life.

The bay has been historically important during Texas' history. The island of Galveston was home to eastern and coastal Texas' earliest major settlement and, during the later 19th century, it was Texas' largest city. The island's port, on the bay side, became one of the top ports in the U.S. During the 20th century as the oil boom in Texas took hold the bay became even more important as a shipping center as Houston and Texas City developed into major port and industrial centers.

Today the bay is within the Houston–Sugar Land–Baytown metropolitan area, which is the sixth-largest metropolitan area in the U.S. and is home to major ports including the second-busiest port in the nation. It produces more seafood than any bay in the nation except the Chesapeake.

best time to fish in galveston texas west bay?
Q. best time to fish in galveston texas west bay?

A. I fished those bays, Galveston, and Christmas bay's, for 30+ years. The last 10yrs as a guide before moving away. I always caught more fish at high tide, preferably morning high tide. These bays can be tricky during low tide because they are very shallow. Seen lot's of guys hung up with their boats on the reefs during low tide, not knowing the areas very well. However, knowing where the deeper holes are located during low tide can pay off as well. Live shrimp was always my favorite bait to use out there. Mud-minnows, small mullet or croaker, occasional baby crab are other baits that have caught me fish out there as well. I still get down there for family and friends about once a year, I always go fishing in those bays when I go. Feel… [cont.]

Inexpensive alternatives to a gravel driveway?
Q. Need to make a driveway that won't wash away. We drove out there the other day after the rain and the ground was really soggy and marshy. It's near Galveston Bay and the soil is loam and clay. No bedrock. What could we use besides gravel? Would oyster shells work? We could probably get tons of that for free.
