Should the national government or the states be more predominant, or is this a false dichotomy given the complexity of governemtn and the intermingling of functions today? Do we need to "sort out" which level of government should do what? Asked by Klatelon - Tue Jun 23 10:38:26 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. I believe that most things should be up to the States. The Federal Government's job should be to write the guidelines and enforce that the guidelines are being followed. What is happening and has been since the early 1900's is that the Federal Government has been slowly stealing more things that should be States rights. The Federal Government should be small while the State and Local governments take care of the people in their areas. For the person saying that the things not covered by the Constitution belong at the Federal level is clearly mistaken since according to the Constitution, anything not covered belongs to the States and local governments and not to the Federal Government. I don't believe the founding fathers anticipated the diversficstion of religions and politics that are eroding the United States today. Our founding fathers intentions were to form a new country not create a patchwork quilt of conflicting religions and politics.
