From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. An encyclopedia (also spelled encyclopaedia or encyclopædia) is a comprehensive written compendium holding information from either all branches of knowledge or a particular branch of knowledge. Encyclopedias are divided into articles with one article on each subject covered. The articles on subjects in an encyclopedia are usually accessed alphabetically by article name and can be contained in one volume or many volumes, depending on the amount of material included. Indeed, the purpose of an encyclopedia is to collect knowledge disseminated around the globe; to set forth its general system to the men with whom we live, and transmit it to those who will come after us, so that the work of preceding centuries will not become useless to the centuries to come; and so that our offspring, becoming better instructed, will at the same time become more virtuous and happy, and that we should not die without having rendered a service to the human race in the future years to come. — Diderot OverviewFrom Wikipedia under the

I don't trust Wikipedia and Britannica just turned to a pay encyclopedia. I'm not looking for a dictionary, I'm looking for an encyclopedia. The encyclopedia should have good citations as well. Asked by Dark Icarus - Tue Dec 8 22:20:05 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Regardless of what people may say, Wikipedia.org is a reliable online encyclopedia. They have citations on their infomation at the bottom of the page. If sources are not sited a message will appear at the top of the page. Remember that Wikipedia gets their info from books and internet sources just like one would if they are writing a paper. You probably shouldn't site Wikipedia as your souce because teachers are prejudic against it. You can also go to the site where the info was taken from at the links at the bottom of the page. Answered by Elena - Tue Dec 8 22:33:28 2009 What volume is the World Book of Encyclopedia 2006?
Q. I went to the library a while ago to do research for a research project. I need to know the volume and edition for the citation info. The article titles are 'Elizabethan I' and 'Victorian'. The encyclopedia year is 2006. The author of Elizabethan I is Arthur J. Slavin. The author for 'Victoria' is James J. Sack. The best answer will go to the correct answer. Asked by James F - Tue May 1 21:09:45 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Well, Sir, I don't really know about the volume but at least I could guess it. I think it must be the 250 or so. That' all that I know. See you!!! Answered by mitra_persada - Wed May 2 03:05:16 2007 From Yahoo Answer Search: "encyclopedia" World Book Introduces The World Book Encyclopedia 2010
