Dallas (pronounced /ˈdæləs/), with an estimated population nearing 1.3 million, is the third largest city in Texas behind Houston and San Antonio, respectively. It is the main city and economic center of the 12-county Dallas–Fort Worth–Arlington metropolitan area that, according to the March 2009 U.S. Census Bureau release, had a population of 6,300,006 as of July 2008, making it the fourth largest and number one fastest-growing (by population) metropolitan area in the nation last year. Dallas is rated as a beta world city by the Loughborough University Globalization and World Cities Study Group & Network. Founded in 1841 and formally incorporated as a city in February, 1856, the city's economy is primarily based on banking, commerce, telecommunications, computer technology, energy, and transportation. Located in North Texas and a major city in the American South & Southwest, Dallas is the core of the largest inland metropolitan area in the United States that lacks any navigable link to the sea. The city's prominence despite this comes from its historical importance as a center for the oil and cotton industries, its position along numerous railroad lines, a strong industrial and financial sector, and its status as a major inland port (due largely to the presence of Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, one of the largest and busiest in the world). From Google News Search: "Dallas" How is the amtrax service between Austin and Dallas? Q. I need to keep travelling between austin and dallas everyweek - usually monday to thursday. Appreciate any feedback on this: How is the Amtrak service between Austin & Dallas ? Is it safe, how are the fellow passengers ? Do you get to buy and eat any snacks/drinks ? How comfortable are the seats for the long journey ? Are there any power points where i can plug my laptop ? Asked by easyguy2010 - Fri Nov 7 23:06:00 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. I have rode the Amtrak train from Dallas to Austin and I really enjoyed it. But it took about 8 hours so it's rather time-consuming. I don't know about riding it almost everyday, though, like you are describing. I think that would get pretty expensive. Yes, I think it's very safe. It wasn't very crowded at all and I enjoyed meeting the other passengers or I could just keep quiet and to myself if I wanted to. You can get up and walk around from car to car and there is a snack car where you can buy snacks and beverages. It is comfortable and the restrooms on board are very clean and decent. I didn't have a laptop at the time, but I bet they do have power points. Not sure about that. All in all, I thought it was a great way to travel. I have server experience and interested in waiting tables at a 5 star restaurant in the Dallas, TX area. Any tips or knowledge about job openings? Asked by xstalkrx - Sun Jun 1 10:41:32 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Yes! There are a couple tricks to getting a server position at a 5 star restaurant (I have worked at a couple, that will remain unnamed, here in DFW). They are a little harder than most, because you can make a career out of waiting at a 5-star restaurant. The first is obviously to know someone. If you work at a decent steakhouse (like Bobs steak and chop house, or Papa bros), and are very good at your job, eventually you will meet all the people that matter (whether it be chefs, restaurant managers, food reps, etc...), and you will have a better position to get into a top restaurant. Surprisingly enough, taking culinary or food service classes at DCCCD is a fantastic way to do this, because everyone that teaches (and a large portion of… [cont.] Answered by LSU - Tue Jun 3 00:56:54 2008 What are some ways a young couple can meet people in the Dallas area?
Q. My boyfriend and I just moved to the Plano area after graduating college. I am 22 and he is 24. We both work full time in North Dallas. We are looking for some groups to possibly join or some outlets where we can meet people our own age. Besides happy hour, what suggestions do you have? We would like something non-religious as we are of different faiths. Thank you in advance. Asked by Rachel - Wed Aug 26 13:52:01 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. How about this come to the annual AnimeFest Convention on Labor Day weekend at the Reunion Hyatt Regency Hotel (where the ball tower is) in downtown Dallas. DART rail takes you straight to Union Station where you take an underground walkway straight to the Hyatt Hotel.
