Texas Drivers Permit Question?
Q. I recently received my drivers permit from the DPS. I got the slip and everything and drive with my parents. My question is that is it okay that while i'm driving and I have a parent guardian in the passenger seat; is it legal to have more people in the back seat of my car? I only have my learners permit and all my friends told me that I can drive with as many people as I want in the car, but I have to have a parent guardian in the passenger seat. My parents want me to make sure that this is right so I can do some of the errands for them without getting out of the car and switching places with them every time someone else gets in the car. Please give me descriptive answers and verify your sources. Please no jokes, this is very… [cont.]

A. It looks like your friends are wrong. You didn't say which Phase of the license you have. I found the following on Phase 2 (so Phase 1 must be even stricter): Phase Two restricts the driving privileges of persons under 18 years of age during the six-month period following the issuance of an original Class A, B, or C driver license (Provisional License). These persons may not operate a motor vehicle with more than one passenger in the vehicle under the age of 21 who is not a family member. They may not operate a motor vehicle between midnight and 5:00 a.m. unless the operation of the vehicle is necessary for the operator to attend or participate in employment or a school-related activity or because of a medical emergency. In addition,… [cont.]

Elected Officials in Texas?
Q. Does anyone know exactly how many elected officials there are within the State of Texas? State,County,City, School Dist. etc. im looking for the number not the descriptions of each seat. I am looking for a combined number or all elected positions within the State which would include local, county, city races etc.

A. Somewhere there is probably a number. I just remember that when I was voting in Texas that there were over 70 races on the ballot -- which just included State and County offices. The number is probably in excess of 10,000 but beyond that I can't be more specific.

Bell County Traffic tickets?
Q. I'm no longer living in Texas. In 2005 I got pulled over for not wearing a seat belt. I was 8 months pregnant at the time. The officer did not write me a ticket off the seat belt. He wrote me a ticket for no registration, and no insurance. I was in a friends a car, and I didn't know where this info was. My friend and I had a falling out, and I never got that info from her. My court date was actually the day I went into labor. I just got a bill (it's now 2009) from Texas saying I owe $1500 for failure to appear, no reg, no insurance. What are my options? I'm even wondering if they would extradite me back to Texas for this?

A. They will not extradite you to Texas for a traffic ticket. You might write a letter to the court explaining your reasons for missing the court date. If you had gone to court you would have paid a $10. fine for lack of insurance. If you are caught driving in Texas you will go to jail if you have not taken care of this fine.
